5th Visit to the Gynae (18 Dec 2010)

Went for my checkup last Saturday. All I can say is, my prep talk failed. :( Haha, was trying to coax my baby to lie in a open-legged manner, but, he decided to be a sleepy head like his dad and slept in a prone position! Dr Tham had intended to check if my baby was a boy or girl, but my baby was in deep sleep and totally did not move at all! Later on, Ed exclaimed that our baby copied him, coz he was sleeping in the exact position in the morning as his back was aching. O well, like father like baby... Lol..

Baby sleeping exactly the same position as Daddy

But thankfully, baby was growing fine. You can see his spinal cord and brain quite clearly in the pic above. Dr Tham said his spine looked normal, so should be fine. Hopefully he will come out a healthy baby. O I nearly forgot, I saw his cute little ear too!!

Baby's heartbeat

Will see more of baby in the detailed scan on 13 January 2011!! Arghh such a long wait.....

4th Visit to the Gynae (18 Nov 2010)

If you ask me how was the check up yesterday, I can only say, everything seems to be in a blurry state and I don't quite remember. Let me try to slowly recall...

As a routine, I went to collect my urine for urine test and, something happened in the toilet!! I was pulling for a piece of toilet paper and accidentally splashed part of the "ah-hem" onto the wall!! I frantically pulled more toilet paper to wipe the wall. Luckily I managed to clean up the mess. Arghh, it's so embarrassing! Felt like a 3-year-old kid then!

Ok, back to subject proper. I was late for the check up and so was Ed. But just nice when he came, the sonographer had called for me. So, like the usual scan, she put the gel on my tummy and used the sensor to sense for my baby. My baby has doubled his size to 71.1mm. Yeah! But he was a naughty baby. He refused to get into the ideal position which the sonographer needed to take the Nuchal Translucency scan for the OSCAR test. (More information on the OSCAR Test) Then the sonographer shook the sensor and said, "Hey baby turn! Turn! Turn!" Me and Ed encouraged him to turn too, but he merely rotated about the X-Axis. O, initially he was lying face down and when she "disturbed" him, he only turned to face us, and then moved to his back facing us. He never got to the sitting up position which the sonographer said was ideal. So, she asked me to go out to walk for 10-15 mins and drink 2 cups of water to fill my bladder.

After about 20 mins later, she called me again. Luckily she did! Coz my bladder was really really full!! Lol! Believe it or not, my baby never moved! Still lying comfortably in his comfort zone. And she did the same to make him move, but, still, he refused to move. He was still lying horizontally with his head on the left. No choice, she asked me to go see my gynae first, hopefully he will move later. So, I went to see Dr Tham first.

I waited for a while before it's my turn. Dr Tham was saying there was another lady just before me whose baby also refused to move in her OSCAR test. Hahaha.. I am not alone! When he did the scan, my baby had turned!! He was now lying with his head on the right side. Cheeky baby right! Dr Tham did a round of assessment and he said my baby is probably fine, in the safe range. Ok! Hopefully he stays where he is or move to a move to a more ideal position later. But overall, the scanning this time was rather fuzzy. Even Dr Tham had commented so. Very hard to get a clear picture of baby, and obviously cannot see if it's a boy or girl this time. I wonder if it's caused by the pancake I just ate coz I remember it was clear earlier :p

So, here are the fuzzy pictures of my baby. The size and the EDD are not accurate in the pictures coz he was curling up.

The scan with the inaccurate length and EDD.
My baby should be 71.1mm already!

Heartbeat, seems slower today

Back to my OSCAR scan. Went back for my scan after seeing Dr Tham. When I stepped into the clinic, I heard my name being called! So fast! I wonder how many times have they called for me though. Lol. This time round, my baby was still lying in the ok position and the new sonographer managed to measure the thickness behind the neck before my baby started to move again! After about 5-10 mins, all the required measurements were taken and I could proceed on! Actually it's an "O No!" because the next procedure is to draw blood. :( 4 tubes in all! It was a breeze, not like my bad experience at the other clinc. 4 jabs but no blood!!

To those who have conscientiously read every attempts of my scan, yes you counted it right! Altogether we had to scan 3 times, not inclusive of the Dr's scan, before successfully taking all the measurements. My baby is really naughty right? Lol. O, by the way, did I mention, Ed was out on an errand when I went for the Dr's check up and the last scan. So he didn't get to see our baby the last 2 times. And Ed exclaimed, "Wow! Our baby is like me! So Guai Lan!!" Lol!! Actually, I have my own way of saying. My baby probably knows that I would only get to see him in a month's time, so he wanted to let me see him a few more times! Haha.. Ok, just my wishful thinking.

Overall, I am quite happy that I saw both his arms and legs. He was waving and kicking etc. But I was really very tired by the end of the scan. The 4 tubes of blood for blood test also got the better of me, coz I felt very giddy at night and even the next day. It gave me a low blood pressure of 105/70. O well, for baby, anything also ok. As long as he will turn out healthy and all. :) No video this time, only a very long winded post.

Wannabe Stylish Mum2be

Recently, realised that I can hardly button up my office pants. :( So, no choice, I decided it's probably time to get some maternity pants and perhaps some tops, in case I can't fit into mine anymore.

Thanks to Grace's friend's blog, I came across "Stylish Mum2be" (Blogshop Add at, a blogshop which offers trendy yet inexpensive maternity wear. It's great that the blogshop offers showroom visit, so that potential customers like me can go and try out the clothe before deciding to buy. Made an appointment to visit the showroom, and was pleasantly greeted by Xiao Ling, the owner.

Was a little shock with the sizes on the pants though. I think those that fitted me were size L!!!! OMG!!! But she reassured me that their sizing scale is different from the normal clothings. *Phew*

After trying say over 10 pants, I finally chose 2 office pants and 2 capris. I also bought 2 tops, same design but different colour.  Total damage, $181. That's a lot, but I think it's still much cheaper than buying from the stores outside. A pair of office pants outside can easily cost $50-$60, I only got mine at $30+. Quite a saving. :)

To ladies who are interested in getting inexpensive maternity wear, do check out Stylish Mum2be! I highly recommend it. No pics to show, but you can view the pics of the clothings offered in the online catalogue. :)

Unplanned Visit (3 Nov 2010)

I was having some abdominal cramps suddenly while working in the data centre. I didn't think much of it initially but when I saw some pink discharge on my pantyliner, I was scared. I quickly called up Dr Tham's clinic and consulted the nurse. She advised me to go down for a check coz I was having cramps too.

Dr Tham saw some discharge when he did cervical examination and he took some sample for tests. He said it might be due to some infection but he doesn't want to  give me any medication for it for now. Luckily my cervix was not opened, meaning the body was not trying to discharge my baby. Thank God. But to be safe, he prescribed me Duphaston for the next 3 weeks, till the end of my first trimester. I am 11wks pregnant today.

Dr Tham is a rather humorous person. While he was observing my baby through the ultrascan, he exclaimed, "You know, I think you might be having a boy." Then I said I thought so too. And he asked, "How you know?" I smiled, didn't dare to mention about the non-scientific proven chinese calendar I had used to plan my pregnancy. Then he continued, "I got proof you know!" He pointed to this thing sticking out of my baby in between his legs. He said he saw it in a few angles, but can only confirm in 2 visits' time.

My Baby

My baby has grown 7mm in 4 days. And I put on 0.1kg! Arghh... I was paranoic about the weight gain today and I asked Dr Tham. He said out of his patients, I am considered quite normal already. Based on his record, in the first 12 weeks, the most weight a patient lost was 9kg! And the most weight a patient put on was 10kg! Well, looks like I am quite normal then.

My baby at 11w0d, 41.5mm long

See his heartbeat

His heart beating at 171BPM

Dr Tham also did an initial check of the fluid behind my baby and his nose bridge and he said preliminary assessment of my baby showed that I probably have a low risk of a down syndrome baby. Keeping my fingers crossed till 18 Nov. I will keep praying that my baby will be safe and sound.

3rd Visit to the Gynae (30 Oct 2010)

I felt it was a long wait to the 3rd Visit. I couldn't wait to see my baby. Pity Ed couldn't make it, but my MIL volunteered to tag along. I think she was excited to see her grandchild-to-be.

I actually had a pleasant surprise from the scan today. My baby is a foetus now and he has a clearly defined form! It's so exciting! I saw his legs kicking actively and at one point of time, I thought he was waving hello to me! But, I scare myself when I replayed the video. I thought I didn't see his right hand. I replayed numerous times and slowly, I think I spotted the right hand resting on his body. Phew! What a scare!

No more Duphaston, the so called "An Tai Yao" but more multivitamins, calcium pill and fish oil etc. Nutrients for my baby!

O, I forgot an important thing Dr Tham confirmed today. I am 10w3d pregnant and my EDD is 25 May 2011. Yeah! I finally know how many weeks pregnant I am. Haha..

My baby, 34.5mm long, currently 10w5d old, EDD 25 May 2011

My baby's heartbeat is beating strong at 168BPM today!

A close-up view of my baby

And sadly from my pre-pregnancy weight of 47kg, I put on 2.5kg and currently weigh at 49.5kg. But Dr Tham say it's perfectly normal. Hopefully I won't be one of those who gain 20kg in the pregnancy. If not, how to lose all those weight?!?!?!

Sent my buddy the scan pics and she said my baby looks like he has thick eyebrows and big eyes, looks like Si Jia Mo Ni. I laughed. My dear, I don't think he has any hair on his body at this stage yet. Hahaha.. But I don't mind him growing up being a Shuai Ge with thick eyebrows and big eyes. Hahaha!!

Did you see his little toes in the picture? So cute right?

Next visit, OSCAR test plus detailed scan.

2nd Visit to the Gynae (8 Oct 2010)

My appointment was initially scheduled on the next day but because I was spotting a little with a little abdominal cramp, the nurse had advised me to come in earlier for a check.

After doing some checks on the cervix area and through the scanning, Dr Tham confirmed that I was having some bleeding spots. He attributed it to stress and gave me 1 week hospitalization leave to rest at home. Shucks, now I have to tell my boss about it. I meant to keep it till the 3rd month. Dr Tham also prescribed a hormones jab and more Duphaston till the next visit. The jab on my butt made me look like I walked in an awkward manner :(.

Though the jab was unpleasant, my baby had reached a milestone today! Dr Tham managed to record his heartbeat! Hehee.. Happy. I will share with you the video soon. You can see the heart pumping but the baby doesn't really have a defined form yet.

That thing with the blue indicator is my baby

My baby's heartbeat was 126BPM

Do you see the blue and red blinking thingie? The black thing around him is the water bag.

1st Visit to the Gynae (22 Sept 2010)

After doing some research in mummysg forum and asking around for friends' recommendation, I had decided to choose Dr Benjamin Tham as my Gynae. (You can find more information about him from He was my friend's, Siew Hui's gynae and she told me how comfortable she was with him and she had actually followed him from KKH to TMC when he switched to private practice. True enough, Dr Tham was really very friendly and I felt comfortable with him. Good first impression.

Dr Tham did an ultrascan for me and confirmed my pregnancy when he saw a little sac. I was thrilled and I thought wow that's my baby! Ok. I was ignorant. It was only in my third visit did I realise the "baby" I thought in my first visit was actually the starting form of the water bag.. Haha!! He couldn't confirm at that point how many weeks pregnant I was, but he said it could be from 3wks to 5wks. Well, we would know better next time then.

Only have a hardcopy of the scan but I don't have a scanner with me. But seriously, there was nothing much to see in the first scan.

Hello Mayday!

Hello Mayday!

Have decided to start this blog to share with you the journey of awaiting for the arrival of little Mayday Baby (aka MDBB), and also remind myself many years from now how it was.

Let me start with how I found out about little MDBB. It started with my anxiousness to "调养" my body before I conceive. Hence, adventurous me went to try out TCM. The physician had asked me to take my Basal Body Temperature daily. On my second visit, seeing that my BBT was relatively high every day, she exclaimed that I might already be pregnant. I was shocked. So fast?

And I went home to test with my cheapo pregnancy test strip. Cheapo because it cost me only $0.75 per strip (You can get it from if you are interested). The first time I tested, I thought I saw a very faint line. Could not confirm, so I tested again a few days later. Line had darken a little but still looked faint. Probably at that point of time, the hCG level was still low, so the test strip didn't pick up enough for a thick line. Then I tested again and again for the next couple of days (coz I had many test strips to spare you see). The line gradually darkened.

If I never remember wrongly, this was the second test
Third Test

One fine day, I decided to get a more expensive test, Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test Kit! To cut the story short, I wasted 1 Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test coz I collected too little urine sample :( and for the second one I bought, it tested that I was 3+ weeks PREGNANT! Wow! I highly recommend this kit if you want a double confirmation. I think being an engineer, having a clear answer is definitely the key.

Clearblue Digital Pregnancy Test Kit showing 3+ wks Pregnant
So, I am definitely pregnant! Yeah! From this point onwards, my pregnancy journey and mummyhood began....
